getting a new router

Posted in Computer Techmology at 04:26 UTC by Richard

Right now, I’m about to pull the trigger and buy a new router. It’s actually a tiny computer that is generally used as a router, though it can do many other things, and it is called the Soekris. My friend that runs truck-web.us here on this linode has had one for quite awhile and can’t say anything but good things about it. It would be replacing my aging FreeBSD router that is run on a very old Compaq desktop with a Pentium75 and 48MB of RAM which has seen continual use for the last four years. I can’t wait to play with it!

linode upgrade

Posted in Uncategorized at 05:09 UTC by Richard

Last night was the big upgrade, my fellow linoders and I brought in a fifth person to share the cost and we decided to upgrade from a 120 to a 160. This offers us better performance and more disk space and should work out quite well, a side bonus is that the new host server has fewer linodes on it and is probably of higher quality hardware than the old host server. I can already tell a big difference, I’m quite happy with the change. I’ve already checked and the performance on my gallery and truck’s blog are quite nice. You can view them yourself, www.backslider.net/gallery2/ and www.truck-web.us.
